Wakulla County Announces Shell Point Public Access Boat Ramp
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., Wakulla County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Shell Point Public Access Boat Ramp.
In 2014, County staff provided the Florida Legislature with a concept paper for the Shell Point Public Access Boat Ramp and were successful in the County receiving $730,000 ($155,000 from general revenue and $580,000 from the Florida Boating Improvement Program) for land acquisition, design and permitting, and construction of the project. Funds for the project are administered by the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) through an agreement with the County.
“A team approach between County staff, Dewberry Preble-Rish the designer and project engineer, and Hydra Engineering & Construction the boat ramp construction contractor, has led to a successful completion of this project. The County is excited about adding a new accessible public boat ramp for its citizens,” said County Administrator David Edwards.
The new ramp is now open 24/7 and features:
- Double launch area
- Temporary tie-up floating dock
- Site & security lighting
- Landscaping with irrigation
- Parking area with 21 vehicle/trailer spaces and 4 individual vehicle parking spaces
It should also be noted this is the first phase, the second phase will include a ship store, restroom and fueling station and will be constructed as funds become available.
